Borsalino is perhaps the best known hat brand for men. The brand is so well-known that the name of the brand became synonymous  to the type of hat with which Borsalino became famous for, the grooved hat of a premium fur-felt quality.
In 1857, Giuseppe Borsalino and his brother started producing hats in Alessandria (Northern Italy) after gaining experience in various hat workshops in France and elsewhere in Italy.

The hats produced by the brothers were of a very high quality and eventually Borsalino received the Grand Prix at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1900, starting the worldwide brand's legend. The Grand Prix was the ultimate appreciation for products at that time.

In the 1920s, production had fled to such an extent that 2 million hats were produced each year and 3000 people were employed at the Borsalino plant.

In the 1970s there was a lot of attention for the hats by the film industry with even a movie entitled “Borsalino” in which Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo acted.
Over the decades, Borsalino has maintained the high standard and quality of production and the hat is a valued part of many a wardrobe. After a turbulent period in the last decade with dubious owners and bankruptcy, Borsalino is back in calm waters.

The production of the hats still takes place in Alessandria with the same high quality standard that made Borsalino famous.

Well-known Borsalino carriers are Michael Gorbachev, Ronald Plasterk, Humphrey Bogart, Michael Jackson and Pharrel Williams.
